A natural work environment: boost your employees' well-being

Get outside in and boost your employees' well-being!

‍Didyou know that a natural work environment impacts your employees? From research by Interface (among 3,600 office workers within Europe) found that a natural work environment increased employee well-being and creativity by 13 percent. In addition, productivity increased by 8 percent. At DUS, we think it's important that you and your team are inspired and effective. You can read how we approach this in this article!

A natural working environment

You may be thinking now: what does a natural work environment mean? We can explain that to you! A natural work environment means working in a space where natural materials are used. It's basically bringing a piece of nature from outside, inside. Interface's research shows that daylight, color, natural materials (such as wooden tables), plants and views are the most important pillars for an enjoyable work environment. That's why at DUS we bring the outside in!

Daylight

At DUS, we love daylight. Interface's research shows that 55 percent of respondents in the Netherlands chose daylight as the most important pillar for an ideal workplace. After all, daylight has a big effect on your health. It is an important component for our biological clock. If you see enough daylight in a day, you sleep better. The result: better concentration and a positive mood.

View

Oh, look at this picture! If you look out the window at DUS, you can see the boats sailing on the Amsterdam-Rijn Canal. Employees who regularly see natural surroundings (trees, water, dunes) when they look out the window work more productively and are in a better mood. So could your team use a natural environment? At DUS, you'll find peace in busy Utrecht!

Color

16 percent of respondents consider bright colors the most important feature of a favorite workplace. And that's not surprising. Colors can influence our emotions and performance. This is why studies have been done on the effect of colors on your mood and behavior. At DUS, you'll notice that the color orange often comes up. The color orange represents optimism, creativity, playfulness and energy. It is a color that attracts attention which stimulates and activates your brain. We believe these aspects contribute to a successful meeting.

Natural materials

In addition to daylight and bright colors, natural materials are also important. 14 percent of respondents said they like this in a work environment. They experience more peace and space in their heads, which reduces stress levels. By natural materials you can think of, for example: wooden tables, logs or a moss wall. To bring this natural feeling inside, at DUS we have different materials in our spaces. Book meeting space 1, 1A and 1B? Then you will notice the grass carpet, wood blocks and trees. So you can have your meeting, brainstorm or training in peace and quiet.
