DUS-tainability: sustainability at DUS

At DUS, we contribute to a greener future....

Sustainability is in our DNA because it is the only way to do business for future generations. How do we contribute to a greener future? Read all about our DUS-tainability below.

History

The origin of this building has everything to do with the former DEMKA factory across the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. In the 1960s, they built the company's drawing rooms on our current work and playground. After its closure in 1983, the building came into the hands of construction company Jurriëns, famous for its restoration work. Around 2013, they decided to completely restore and preserve the building, based on the design of Utrecht Architect Jan Bakers.

How the property became sustainable

A completely new shell was put around the building to achieve climate control. Sustainability was paramount: very energy efficient, super well insulated, heat pumps, smart lighting (light burns less brightly at the windows than in the middle of the halls) and lots of daylight allowing natural light and heat to reach the property well. In 2018, DUS was able to purchase the building, modify it and move into it in 2019.

Catering

The catering could not be left behind: local juices, no bottled water, straws made of paper, little waste, the waste that there is, is biodegradable, beer from the most sustainable brewery Gulpener, wines not from the other side of the world but directly from the winemaker in Germany. Sandwiches are baked locally and we are not averse to offering a vegetarian option next to a nice piece of meat that is just as tasty.

The interior

Much of the interior of DUS has been given new life from the storage of our quirky brother DeFabrique. We also work with recyclable tables. These are made of cardboard and on these, anyone may take notes or play a game of butter, cheese and eggs.
